Biography:  Paul Mc Namara graduated from University College Cork (UCC) in 2007 with a first class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BEEE). He continued on in UCC until 2012 when he received his PhD, which involved the investigation of the use of centralised and distributed control techniques in large scale power systems. He commenced working as part of the SEES cluster in Maynooth University in 2012, and in 2015 moved to UCD. Applications in this time have included hierarchical demand response and providing frequency support over multi-terminal HVDC networks using centralised and decentralised control architectures.

Paul is funded under the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions and co-funded under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Keywords:  Multi-terminal HVDC grids, Automatic Generation Control, Model Predictive Control, distributed control, Demand Response.
