Michael Power

Senior Researcher

Biography: Michael Power has BE (Electronic) and M.Eng.Sc. degrees from UCD. He has over 30 years experience of power system operation with ESB and EirGrid. His responsibilities included management of short term power system operations and the development and operation of the National Control Centre’s energy management system.

He is a Distinguished Member of CIGRÉ, the International Council on Larger Electric Systems, serving as Convenor of two working groups, System Control and Control Centres (39.01) and the Impact of Substation Control Systems on System Operation (C2.11) between 2000 and 2009. He was a member of Study Committee C2/39 between 1998 and 2004. He was awarded CIGRÉ Technical Committee Award in 2004 for contributions to System Control and Operation. He is also a senior member of the IEEE. He joined the ERC in 2009.

Michael is funded by the Program for Research in Third-Level Institutions Cycle 5 (PRTLI) and co-funded under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
