Dr Seán Lyons is an Associate Research Professor at the ESRI and adjunct Associate Professor at TCD. He specialises in applied microeconomics, with a particular focus on regulated sectors and policy modelling. In recent years, Seán’s energy-related work has examined the effects of energy efficiency labelling on house prices and rents; economic costs of unexpected outages in essential services; ownership and usage of domestic appliances; determinants and distribution of fuel poverty; effects of smart metering and time of using charging; incentives provided by the Single Electricity Market for construction of electricity capacity; and effects of carbon and energy taxes on firms and households. He has a PhD in Economics from Trinity College Dublin, an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge and a BA in History from TCD.
Seán joined the ESRI in 2007, and his former posts include Partner at Indecon Economic Consultants, Senior Adviser at the ODTR (now ComReg) and Managing Consultant at London Economics.
